Doomtree visited Milwaukee this past weekend with a killer show at Turner Hall. P.O.S. was M.I.A. with a brand new baby (the rate of reproduction in the hip hop world is mind boggling lately. But so thuggin’ cute!) but the crew, unsurprisingly, held it down without him. And everyone in the audience agreed that Dessa is gorgeous and we were all very happy to be alive.

Toki Wright opened and then everybody drank and Jill and I sang “hey foxy lady” to the sketchy people we met on our walk home. She was the platinum street walker and I her turquoise confidante. Cheers to another Saturday night.

Here’s a bit of an {unedited} recap:

On to the next week!

Too short as always, our weekend has come to an end. I’m beginning to treat our days as one fabulous mini-vacation at a time. It’s much more exciting that way! Like a vacation where we sometimes invite our friends or encounter people we really don’t want to…

Saturday was all about the outdoors, honey lattes, and new burnt henna Vans. Leif has dipped his toes into the hipster life and I think he might be taking up permanent residence. Flannel and fitted jeans have become his new steez.

NOTE: compliment his new shoes. Before he makes you.

The night was spent with Eric and AJ at a darling European bistro called Allium (known more for their drinks than their small plates, but that is nothing to complain about). I would recommend everything. Literally. Order everything plus a few drinks and your night is set. We decided that we might take up residence in it’s bay windows made of twinkle lights and asymmetrical stars. Needless to say, it was dreamy and I’ll be going back.

Finally, Leif and I were able to celebrate Saint Valentine’s together! It was quiet and colorful and I loved it.

For her:

For him:

I’ve already almost finished kate spade’s Guide to Living Colorfully! It’s the most perfect collection of books I’ve ever encountered. Yes. Yes it is. And Leif now has his very own set of whiskey rocks. If I ever own a bar (?) I’ll make sure to serve every glass of whiskey or scotch with their very own whiskey stones. It’s just better that way.

Vacation over. Back to business. Happy Sunday, everyone!

chicken…….. don’t ask.

Life is good in the hood working side-by-side on a Saturday. It almost feels.. normal? The sun is calling us. We’ll see you at Alterra.

Came home to a little goodie waiting for me:

My very first rose bush. With hidden chocolates! And I thought my day had reached it’s peak when I treated myself to new cleaning products and Vanity Fair from Walgreens… Apparently the day wasn’t done giving.

Word to the wise: flowers = joy. And a plant that needs to be potted? That’s commitment, son.

Leif the Viking isn’t just looks, people.

Well, well. We’ve got a trendsetter on our hands.

The lovely Sally Rose just got her very own feature on courtesy of our mutual and wonderful friend, Cassie Mcaloon – one of Chicago’s best Marquette transplants to date.

A quick preview is below – click HERE to read the rest.

Me: How do you make your style stick out on Marquette’s campus?

Sally: I put my own twist on the typical Marquette preppy look.  I’d call my style “funky classic.”  I buy a lot of basic pieces in classic colors and mix it up with funky and unique pieces and accessories.

Me: What are your favorite places to shop in Milwaukee?

Sally: I absolutely love the Third Ward.  There’s this great Asian themed store that sells all sorts of furniture and knickknacks.  It’s a great place to look for inexpensive gifts, and it’s attached to a tea house.  I also love Hot Pop in the Third Ward.  The store’s a mix between a clothing shop and a modern art gallery.  They have a lot of great standout pieces for any outfit.  And of course I love the Urban Outfitters in Milwaukee.  They have the best sale section of any Urban Outfitters I’ve ever been in!

All aboard the Awkward Express.

Welcome to a long distance relationship in BLOG form! This is exciting. I’m really really excited. This is where we record Leif’s daily meals and my tea of the month (February is a double Samurai Chai Mate & White Ayurvedic Chai by-the-by).

There will also be hip hop. Stay tuned.
